NDP call MacLauchlan ‘elitist’
Leader Mike Redmond 'thrilled' at Wade MacLauchlan announcement
P.E.I. NDP Leader Mike Redmond is calling the new Liberal leadership candidate ‘elitist,’ and predicting the NDP would win several seats away from a MacLauchlan led party.
Redmond made the statement in a news release issued within half an hour of MacLauchlan announcing his candidacy.
“This is great news,” said Redmond.
“He is an elitist, the polar opposite to the NDP on all of our main issues including the advancement of income security, the elimination of child poverty, the protection of the environment, the development of a sustainable economy, and the establishment of open and transparent government accessible to all Islanders.”
Redmond said Islanders are sick and tired of elitist politics, "But the Liberals just can’t keep themselves from going from one self serving elitist to another in terms of their leadership."
MacLauchlan is the first to declare for the Liberal leadership. A convention is scheduled for Feb. 20-21.
