Murphy's Community Centre bowling alley getting $400K facelift
Murphy's Community Centre equipment was more than 40 years old
Renovations on Murphy's Community Centre's bowling lanes have begun.
The lanes are getting a $400,000 facelift, after months of mechanical problems with the more than 40-year-old equipment.
"This past winter we did have significant problems with mechanics and I don't think the mechanics can hold up another year," said Greg MacDougall, the centre's general manager.
"We're replacing the pinsetters, the scoring software, and also what customers will notice the most is the sitting area of the bowling centre. Right now it's hard plastic seats, and we will be moving towards more of a vinyl couches with coffee tables and create more of an entertainment facility."
The facility will also be relaxing the rules around eating and drinking in the lanes.
The centre has received a donation from the provincial credit union, and is applying for provincial and federal grants.
They expect the work will take about a month.
