Mountie injured in Confederation Bridge incident still in hospital

The Mountie who was injured on the Confederation Bridge after being dragged by a stolen vehicle on Sept. 1 will remain in hospital until next week, say RCMP.

The Mountie who was injured on the Confederation Bridge after being dragged by a stolen vehicle on Sept. 1 will remain in hospital until next week, say RCMP.

Const. Ryan Jewett, 33, of the East Prince detachment, is recovering at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown.

He was dragged after a man who had been walking on the bridge where no pedestrians are allowed, commandeered a bridge service pickup truck and sped off toward the New Brunswick end of the structure. There the driver smashed into two vehicles, one of which was was another bridge service truck that was used to block the road.

Jewett suffered a broken leg and ankle.

An RCMP spokesperson says he has considerable healing to do but he is on his way to a full recovery.

Scott Alexander McNally, 28, of Borden-Carleton, was charged in the incident and remains in custody.

His next court appearance is Sept. 21.

Charges against him include being criminally negligent in the operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, flight from police, theft of a vehicle, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and causing damage to motor vehicles.
