Montague man leads solo food drive for 2nd time
Robert Benoit says he's had to rely on the food bank before
A Montague man is spending Friday driving around his community trying to fill a van full of food.
Robert Benoit's goal is fill the shelves at the Southern Kings and Queens Food Bank.
This is the second year Benoit has put on the drive.
Last year, he collected 1,134 kilograms of food and about $700 in donations from local businesses.
Benoit said he's had to rely on the food bank himself.
"So I went up and [they] gave me probably enough [food] to last me a couple of weeks. And I said, 'Well, this is never going to be forgotten.’ So I said, ‘There's going to be a day when I'm going to return the favour,’ and I guess it came to that point last year."
This year, Benoit is expanding his drive to the neighbouring community of Montague.
He said people were already giving him donations ahead of the drive.
