Mobile vendors in Kensington to get 'consistent' regulations
Mayor says there have been no problems with vendors, the town just wants some 'minor guidelines'
Mobile vendors in Kensington, P.E.I., will likely have some new rules to follow next year.
A new draft bylaw to regulate mobile vendors was presented to council Monday night.
The bylaw lays out the application process, $100 fee and allowable locations and hours of operation.
Mayor Rowan Caseley said there haven't been any problems with mobile vendors, but the town wants to be prepared if a number of requests come in.
"Occasionally we get a few requests every year for people to come in and set up and we have been kind of dealing with them on a one-off basis and we haven't really had any real specific guidelines around them," he said.
"So we have decided that maybe what we should be doing is getting some minor guidelines as to what we are dealing with so that everybody is being dealt with on a consistent basis."
He said non-profit organizations will be able to run a mobile operation without having to pay a fee.
As part of the application process, a description of the merchandise being sold and a photograph of the stand or vehicle has to be included. Vendors need permission from private property owners before setting up shop.
All required provincial certificates and licenses must also be obtained.
The council will accept input from residents before the bylaw goes to first reading in January, said Caseley.
