Mink farm target of petition
A group of people who live near a proposed mink farm in central P.E.I. delivered a petition Thursday afternoon to government calling for a public hearing.
More than 100 signatures were collected from people living in the communities of Springton and Stanchel. The residents feel their concerns about environmental impact are not being heard. "All we want is no mink farm. It's as simple as that," said Allistair MacIntosh.
"We're concerned about our air quality, we're concerned about our drinking water. We want a public meeting set up … We have a lot of questions that we're not getting answered."
The residents had hoped to give the petition directly to Environment Minister Richard Brown, but he was out of province.
Innovation Minister Allan Campbell promised to pass it along to Brown as soon as he returns.
