Mental health services offered to UPEI students
University partners with private company for mental health support for students
UPEI students will be learning about new mental health services available to all students on the campus starting this year.
UPEI has partnered with Shepell-FGI, a private company that offers mental health services. Student affairs manager Treena Smith told CBC News that in addition to on-campus counseling traditionally available students will now have access to support services online and on the phone.
"We can't be here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so I think it's important that students realize that there's lots of support available at the university," said Smith.
"In the evening time, or at night time or on the weekend or on a holiday, you know, the students feel the support of the university, and it just maybe through a different venue than we've been traditionally accustomed to."
The new service is free for all students and will be available every day, at all hours.
