P.E.I. native Adam McQuaid has signed a three-year extension on his contract with the Boston Bruins, reportedly worth $4.7 million.

McQuaid was a strong presence during the Bruins' run for the Stanley Cup this spring. The team announced the extension Thursday, but did not release financial details.

The website capgeek.com is reporting McQuaid's three-year deal is worth $4.7 million.

McQuaid has one year left in his current deal.

It's been a good summer for Islanders in the NHL. Earlier this month Brad Richards signed a nine-year deal with the New York Rangers.

He'll make $12-million this season, making him the highest-paid player for the 2011-12 season.
