A 47-year-old Prince county man had been charged with one count of assault following an alleged incident at a hockey game Friday night in O'Leary.

RCMP allege a young referee was assaulted as he left the ice after a minor hockey game.

Police say they investigated a complaint that a 19-year-old referee was grabbed and shoved against the wall by a man who was unhappy about how the game was refereed.

"As a result of that confrontation, we received a complaint of an assault," said Sgt. Kent MacKay.

No one was injured.

The man has been released and is scheduled to appear in Summerside provincial court on April 5.
