Officials from the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans will be on a conference call with fishermen in the region Monday to update the start of the lobster fishing season.

On Thursday DFO decided to delay the April 30 opening of the spring lobster fishery due to ice in many harbours. No new date for the opening was set. That is expected to be discussed on the conference call.

On Friday P.E.I. Fishermen's Association president Craig Avery said he was frustrated DFO hadn't consulted with his organization before deciding to delay the start of the season.

DFO said it's been in regular contact with the PEIFA, including a call on Thursday, and said it will continue to discuss the situation with all fishing associations in the region.
