The spring lobster fishery in area 24, along the north coast of P.E.I., will open Friday, announced Fisheries and Oceans Canada on Wednesday.

The opening date for Lobster Fishing area 26A, on the Island's south side, has not been determined yet.

DFO says higher than normal ice accumulations and weather conditions this spring may lead to some delays in the placement of navigational aids. Therefore, the department is advising fishermen to take extra care when navigating certain areas.

DFO delayed the start of the spring lobster season because of heavy ice conditions in the Northumberland Strait and harbours in P.E.I.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada announced the lobster fishery in area 24 will open Friday, but the department has not yet set a date for area 26A. (Fisheries and Oceans Canada)
