'A little farther west': Lennie Gallant takes Searching For Abegweit to Summerside
8 shows will be performed over 4 weeks
Lennie Gallant is going west this summer with his show, Searching For Abegweit: The Island Songs & Stories of Lennie Gallant — west to Summerside, P.E.I.
"There was always that interest there," Gallant said of having the show performed at the Harbourfront Theatre.
"And it seemed to make sense after three successful summers in Charlottetown to take it a little farther west."
Gallant is hoping people from that part of the Island will come and see the show.
"We're having such a great time, it's such a beautiful theatre and the crew we are working with are tremendous."
Gallant said the show is always evolving and feels it gets better the more times it is performed.
New images
"Every year we are adding new images. We just added 30 new paintings from my sister, Karen and she's just getting better and better with her work."
Gallant said it surprises him that the show remains so popular with many returning to see it each year and bring new people with them.
"I've got to pinch myself sometimes you know the fact that its had a run like this — this is more than I thought would happen."
Gallant said the show touches on so many things connected to the Island including the history, culture, the present day and what are the hopes for the future.
"Somehow all of the different aspects and the different songs and stories which I feel are a kind of a patchwork quilt of P.E.I., somehow they all blended together and it works I guess."
There will be eight shows performed between July 11 to August 25. Ticket information can be found at the Harbourfront Theatre website.
