Kings County Memorial Hospital closes ER due to nurse shortage

A lack of nursing staff has led to the closure of the emergency department at Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague said PEI Health on Sunday.

Health PEI says Sunday's closure will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A lack of nursing staff has led to the closure of the emergency department at Kings County Memorial Hospital in Montague said PEI Health on Sunday.

Sunday's closure will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Health PEI says anyone with health concerns during that time should call 811 to speak to a nurse.

They say anyone with urgent care needs should call 911 or go to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown if experiencing:

  • discomfort or tightness in the chest
  • unusual shortness of breath
  • abdominal pain
  • prolonged and persistent headache or dizziness
  • an injury that may require stitches or involve a broken bone
  • a child has prolonged diarrhea or vomiting
  • a baby under six months of age has a fever of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher
