Liberal MLA announced resignation Monday to return to private life after nearly a decade in elected office
Janice Sherry is leaving provincial politics. P.E.I.'s Liberal Party announced Monday that the MLA for the district of Summerside-Wilmot would be returning to private life effective immediately.
"I want to thank my constituents and caucus colleagues for all of the support they have shown me," said Sherry in a news release.
"While I will miss this job, it is time to pass the baton to someone else with fresh ideas and to encourage rejuvenation in the party."
Sherry was first elected MLA for Summerside-Wilmot in 2007. She was re-elected for a third term in 2015.
Nearly 10 years in elected office
During her tenure, she served as Government Whip and held a number of cabinet level portfolios including Minister of Environment, Labour and Justice, Minister Responsible for Public Safety and served as Attorney General.
