Island photographer Al Douglas takes a lot of Instagram photos, and he's obviously very good at it.

So good, one that he recently took of the north shore of P.E.I. caught the attention of Canadian Geographic magazine, and it's been chosen for its special issue, 150 Ultimate Canadian Instagram Photos.

"They actually reached out early 2016, I think they were just cruising through Instagram and happened on my account, and they actually featured a photo of mine in their July-August 2016 issue, which was pretty cool," Douglas told Angela Walker on CBC Mainstreet.

This year, Instagram came looking for more, and asked him to send four or five photos for consideration for the special edition, which has just been published.

"It's a shot from the north shore of P.E.I., Terre Rouge Lane in Cavendish, if anybody out there is familiar, looking towards the Cavendish Beach side," Douglas said. "Sunset, there's some trees in it, and it just kind of has that classic summer P.E.I. feel to it.

"Anyone from P.E.I. can probably look at that and feel the summer heat and probably smell those beach smells, the salty air and the fresh trees around."

Having the shot in this special edition of Canadian Geographic means a lot to Douglas, because he feels strongly about sharing those photos with as many people as possible.

"For me, the photos I take on P.E.I. are just another way to showcase the beauty that is P.E.I., and to share with people that are across the country what P.E.I. is all about, and if this is another way to put that word out there, then that's great, I love it."

Douglas is a constant user of Instagram, posting photos in all four seasons, not just of nature but anything on the Island he feels like highlighting in his travels.

He works for the Murphy group of restaurants, doing their food and lifestyle photography, and is in events marketing, so he has lots of opportunities for Island photos.
