Harper can't be trusted, says Easter
The federal government's economic update presented Thursday does more to stall the economy than stimulate it, charges Liberal MP Wayne Easter.
Easter, MP for the central P.E.I. riding of Malpeque, told CBC News on Friday the update is full of partisan tricks and Conservative ideology.
"Where every other country in the world is providing an economic stimulus, this government is trying to leave the impression that they're not going to do anything right now," he said.
"They're predicting a surplus down the line. That is inventing numbers."
The three opposition parties — the Liberals, NDP and Bloc Québécois — have said they will vote against the update. The Canadian Press is reporting the Liberals have drafted a no-confidence motion they will introduce Monday with the support of the other two opposition parties.
If the government is defeated, the Liberals and NDP plan to form a coalition government with the support of the Bloc.
"[Harper] can't be trusted," said Easter.
"The opposition parties have clearly said yesterday that enough is enough. We're going to vote against this package because you've been untruthful."
Easter also attacked Harper's proposal to cut funding for political parties, calling it an effort to destroy dissent against his government.
