Gasoline prices are four cents a litre higher on Prince Edward Island to start off the weekend.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission approved the unscheduled price hike which went into effect at 12:01 a.m. Saturday morning.

Gas prices on the Island now range from 109.7 to 110.8 cents per litre.

The commission says wholesale prices have been climbing the past three weeks. It blames seasonal demand for gas and the costs associated with producing more expensive summer-grade gasoline for the increase.

The next scheduled price adjustment is May 1.
