Fort MacMurray fire victims offered free P.E.I. apartment
'My wife and I figured that if we could do anything, we should.'
A Prince Edward Island man is offering up a three-bedroom Charlottetown apartment for free for one month, to someone affected by the fires in Fort McMurray.
Jimmy Hughes said the third floor apartment on Fitzroy Street is vacant right now and he and his wife wanted to put it to good use.
"I felt the struggle that Fort Mac has been going through already, being in the oil and gas industry," said Hughes
"There is not a lot of work out there. And I just can't imagine what they have to go through now without being able to put a house over top of their loved ones heads ... my wife and I figured that if we could do anything, we should."
Offer could be extended
The apartment is fully furnished, three large bedrooms — one with a queen-size bed — and a small living room and kitchen.
Hughes said the furnished apartment usually rents for about $1,200 a month. The free offer could possibly extend beyond a month if circumstances warrant, he added.
Hughes has been putting the word out about the apartment through Facebook.
