'Nice mess before Christmas' says Melanie Doucette of St. Lawrence
A family that was evacuated from a home in St. Lawrence, in western P.E.I., because of flooding Wednesday night says their home and possessions were badly damaged.
Melanie Doucette, her husband Trent and their baby Benjamin were rescued by Department of Transportation workers at suppertime Wednesday.

As they left their house, the water "was coming up over our doorstep, coming up the stairs," said Doucette.
"The water was up to our thighs, and the current was just so strong, it was like being out in the beach water whenever the waves are really high. It was just pushing against us."
Now, their house is flooded and they don't know when they will be able to return.
"There were boxes of diapers and clothes those are all floating on top of the water. The garage is full of water, mud. And our vehicles, when you turn them on, all the lights are on on the vehicles, you know, 'service engine.' We weren't prepared for sure."
Doucette and her family are staying with her mother in the meantime.
