Island company gives away blueberry products after failed deal
A botched deal led to free blueberry purée for some from PEI Berries Ltd.
A Prince Edward Island company made a sweet gesture after a blueberry purée deal fell through. PEI. Berries Ltd. had a shipment of 3,000 bottles processed to go overseas.
The company wasn't able to find another buyer and the expiry date on the bottles was only months away.
The company's general manager, Nathan Archibald, decided to give it away.
At seven dollars a bottle, it was a giveaway worth more than $21,000.
Archibald approached local food banks, child care facilities, senior's homes and soccer clubs from Kensington to Murray River.
Archibald says it was a good way to introduce a wider group of Islanders to the PEI Berries product.
"It's not ideal but overall it's a good thing," he said.
"We've made a lot of new fans out of our products and we will have future customers going forward. So we made the most of it."
Archibald says the "dashed deal" turned promotion was so successful that the company will consider doing it again.
