Dave's Lobster has become a major buyer of P.E.I. lobster with a growing number of locations after the first shop opened in Charlottetown two years ago.

Dave's Lobster specializes in lobster rolls served on a grilled bun with locally brewed craft beer on the side.

The business has added two new locations this year: on P.E.I.'s North Shore in Cavendish and in Saint John, N.B. They join the original Charlottetown location and a Halifax store.

Significant buyer

The shop sells only P.E.I. lobster, and owner Dave Hyndman said he will buy thousands of pounds more this year as a result.

"I won't give the exact number, but we will buy the equivalent of well over 50,000 lobsters this summer," said Hyndman.

"I checked with our supplier. I think we are one of the largest restaurant buyers of lobster on the Island, and with us sending lobster off-Island, I'd say we're becoming a significant exporter. Probably not to the tune of what's flying off to China and those sorts of places, but we're doing our bit."

Hyndman said the original Charlottetown location could suffer this summer with the closing down of Founders' Hall, which was in the same building.
