A Charlottetown couple 'kicked' off their married life with a wedding unique to them and their courtship.

Robin and Kirk White said their vows wearing soccer jerseys in the pub, the Churchill Arms, where they spent a lot of time while dating watching soccer.

The idea for the soccer-themed wedding came from the bride who said she began panicking when she started planning.

"I just said 'what you think about if we got married at Churchill Arms' and he thought I was lying. He thought I was testing him, I think," said Robin.

"And she also said 'we'll wear soccer jerseys' and I jumped right onboard obviously," said Kirk.

Fans of different teams

Robin adds it was a good way to make sure all their friends attended because they only had to drop into the pub for a pint.

"Everybody thought it was a great idea. I didn't have any negativity at all. Everybody was so happy to throw jerseys on and just participate, it was great," said Robin.

Robin admits she was not a soccer fan when the couple first reconnected after knowing each other in junior high school. But she learned to love the game as much as her new husband.

"But we're rivals," said Robin.

While Robin is a Barcelona fan, Kirk is a Real Madrid fan. But Robin compromised and the couple wore Real Madrid jerseys for the wedding.

The newlyweds are planning to travel to Barcelona, Spain to watch an El Clásico, a game between their favourite teams who are fierce rivals in the league.
