Cosmetic pesticide ban raised in legislature
A Liberal backbench MLA has put forward a motion that could reopen the debate over a provincewide ban on cosmetic pesticides.
Cynthia Dunsford, MLA for Stratford-Kinlock, said Tuesday that while the province has already looked at the prospect of a ban, and the City of Charlottetown has also conducted a study, there is more work that could be done.
"This isn't a matter of restudying the whole thing," said Dunsford.
"It's a matter of saying, 'OK, let's take these studies and see how we would make this work on Prince Edward Island, if in fact we can.' There are models out there. The province of Quebec has done it."
Dunsford's motion would create a standing committee to collect public input on the issue.
The City of Charlottetown has asked the province to pass legislation that would allow it to enact a citywide ban on cosmetic pesticides.
