Chef Michael Smith returns to Inn at Bay Fortune
Chef Michael Smith plans fire kitchen in restaurant where he got his start
Food Network star Michael Smith, who got his start as chef at P.E.I.'s Inn at Bay Fortune, has announced he and his wife have purchased the inn.
Smith spent six years cooking at the inn in the 1990s and hosted his first cooking show, The Inn Chef, there.
"This is full circle for me. I'm coming back to my roots both as a chef and an Islander. Because in so many ways this is the property where I grew up,"
"Really exciting, it's been quite a slog this winter. We're just thrilled to announce not only are we the new owners but we have some amazing new ideas to share with the world."
Smith and his wife Chastity spent the winter working out a deal to buy the property.
Construction has already started construction on one of his new ideas: an eight metre-long brick fire grill, a fire kitchen, where he will cook nightly feast-style meals, all with local ingredients.
Smith said those feasts will start around June 1.
