Charlottetown-Toronto flights hit by delays

Air Canada officials say there have been unforeseen operational issues resulting in delays for certain flights between Charlottetown and Toronto.

Air Canada officials say there have been unforeseen operational issues with its new regional airline partner resulting in delays for certain flights between Charlottetown and Toronto.

Charlottetown airport CEO Doug Newson said Air Georgian took over the Charlottetown to Toronto flights on May 1. Air Georgian operates a number of regional routes for Air Canada. Newson says since May 1 there have been a number of delays and even some cancellations. He noted one delay Sunday was more than seven hours. There were delays Monday as well.

In an emailed statement to CBC News Air Canada acknowledged the issue.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and have been in touch with our customers to offer compensation," said Isabelle Arthur, media relations with the Air Canada Foundation.

"We have put measures in place, including bringing in Air Canada aircraft and crew, to cover our schedule and ensure flights are on time as we are looking forward to flying more visitors than ever to celebrate this very special summer with Prince Edward Island."
