Charlottetown man remembers VE day in London
A Charlottetown man was one of the millions of people who took to the streets of London, UK to celebrate the end of World War Two in Europe, 70 years ago Friday.

A Charlottetown man was one of the millions of people who took to the streets of London, UK to celebrate the end of World War II in Europe, 70 years ago Friday.
Harold Simpson's army unit was supposed to ship out to Belgium when news arrived the war with Nazi Germany was over. Simpson, who was 19 at the time, headed to London for the VE celebrations.
"Crowds and crowds of people. I walked around until I was sore," said Simpson.
"If you walked around London you were shoulder to shoulder with people the full width of the streets."
Simpson ended up at Buckingham Palace to witness the royal family, along with Prime Minister Winston Churchill, waving to the cheering crowd.
