The Cavendish Beach Music Festival will have a strong RCMP presence again this year.

Officers from across the Island will be working this weekend to ensure traffic moves smoothly and that concert-goers are not drinking and driving.

"The job of the RCMP at the festival will be to keep people safe," said Sgt. Leanne Butler.

"We work on the traffic flow in the area and we also answer calls from the surrounding areas of the concert — noise complaints or any complaints that come in from the communities, the campgrounds and the businesses in the area."

RCMP will work at the concert site, but not within the fencing. There will be private security inside.

"So we work the parking lots, the area where the people walk into the concert. And also a big part of our job is to make sure that traffic flow is done in a safe manner," said Butler.

There will be some travel restrictions in the area. Between 10:30 p.m. and 1:00 a.m, Thursday to Sunday, Route 6 between Cavendish Corner and the Cavendish Beach Boardwalk will be closed to all inbound traffic.

This will allow for the flow of vehicles and pedestrians leaving the festival site toward Stanley Bridge, North Rustico and New Glasgow.
