Catherine Campbell, slain N.S. police officer, remembered at Atlantic Police Academy
Slain police officer 'good student, well-liked' as cadet
Staff at the Atlantic Police Academy on P.E.I. were shocked this week to hear about the death of a Nova Scotia woman who was a cadet at the school just a few years ago.
Catherine Campbell, a Truro police constable, was found dead in Halifax Wednesday. A second-degree murder charge has been laid against 27-year-old Christopher Calvin Garnier.
Eric Fiander, deputy director of the Atlantic Police Academy, told CBC News Campbell was in the class of 2009.
I heard that they found her body about three in the morning, and I really didn't get back to sleep.- Eric Fiander
Campbell was 30 when she joined the academy, about five years older than most of the cadets, but got along well, he said.
"She was a very good student, well-liked," Fiander said.
"I heard that they found her body about three in the morning, and I really didn't get back to sleep."
Campbell will be honoured at the school's annual graduation dinner in September.
