A big three-day concert kicks off today in Charlottetown.

The Big Red Music Festival in Charlottetown features big acts such as The Killers, Marianas Trench and the Sam Roberts Band.

Jeff Squires is the event organizer. He also puts on the Cavendish Beach Music Festival.

He hopes concerts, like this weekend's, will make P.E.I. a top destination for music lovers.

“I think it's about people wanting to get out and have activities and there's a real nice energy around this city here. I think the weather's going to cooperate for the weekend and events have become a significant part of the tourism industry. We need to make sure that P.E.I. is a primary leader in putting on quality events,” said Squires.

He said tickets sales are going well, though he couldn't say exactly how many have been sold.

For those driving around the area, the event will mean some road closures and impacts on parking in Charlottetown.
