Anne 1st edition sells for $10,000

A first edition of Anne of Green Gables sold at auction in New York Monday day for $10,000 US.

The 1908 edition of the L. M. Montgomery classic was on the block at Doyle of New York.

The estimated sale price was $8,000 to $12,000. A representative of Doyle told CBC News before the auction he felt the estimate was conservative, but the sale price fell right in the middle.

The auction house says the winning bid was placed by "a purchaser on the US West Coast."

Earlier this year a first edition of Anne sold for $8,605. The record price paid for an Anne first edition is $37,500 at a 2009 auction.
