Air Canada boosts capacity to P.E.I. this summer
Change will add 100 seats per day between Toronto and Charlottetown
Air Canada says it’s bumping up its capacity in and out of Prince Edward Island this summer.
The airline says it will use bigger planes on three of its four daily flights between Charlottetown and Toronto during the months of July and August.
The airline says the change will add 100 seats per day and boost capacity by 21 per cent compared to last summer.
“I think there's no secret that there's a lot of activity taking place around the P.E.I. 2014 celebrations and obviously the airlines take a close look at advance bookings to see if they notice any trends and from my discussion with Air Canada, they are seeing that July and August looks very strong for this market which is obviously a great sign," said Charlottetown Airport CEO Doug Newson.
"It will certainly be a strong year."
Newson says air travel through Charlottetown to the end of April was up just one per cent compared to the same period last year.
He blames the long, harsh winter.
