Addictions treatment beds shut down
Some of the beds at the provincial addictions treatment centre in Mt. Herbert are currently closed because of a lack of nursing and other staff, says Health PEI.
Some of the beds at the provincial addictions treatment centre in Mt. Herbert are closed because of a lack of nursing and other staff, says Health PEI.
The facility has 24 detox beds, but Health PEI won't say how many of them are open right now. It said the number of beds available for admissions varies from day-to-day based on staffing levels.
Earlier this week in the legislature, the Opposition said 13 of the 24 beds were shut down recently because there wasn't enough staff.
Health PEI says there are four vacancies in the unit, including two RN positions. The agency didn't say how the lack of beds is affecting wait times for people entering the detox program.
