ACOA drops $12.3 million on P.E.I. research
Research grants worth $12.3 million were announced Tuesday for projects based on Prince Edward Island.
Research grants worth $12.3 million were announced Tuesday for projects based on Prince Edward Island.
The money comes through the Atlantic Innovation Fund and goes to seven different projects.
- $2.7 million: Nature's Crops International Limited of Kensington will explore the commercial potential the waste products of seed oil crops. Preliminary results show a combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- $2 million: Chemaphor Inc. of Charlottetown for research into the potential of a non-antibiotic compound for improving livestock immune systems.
- $1.9 million: UPEI's Atlantic Veterinary College to create a a software-based infrared test to detect antibodies in animals.
- $1.9 million: LISI Therapeutics Inc. of Charlottetown to take Verotoxin (VT1), a protein-based anti-cancer drug that naturally targets and kills cancerous cells, to the market.
- $1.4 million: Timeless Technologies (2007) Inc. of Charlottetown to design, develop, test and market a series of online/browser-based applications to assist veterinarians with their daily diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic decisions.
- $1.4 million: UPEI to develop a web-based means of creating and managing the storage, transformation, discovery and distribution of core research and development data.
- $1 million: UPEI's Atlantic Veterinary College will develop software and systems for the web-based delivery of an impartial, objective, verification program for veterinary labs to verify and assure diagnosis.
