5 lighthouses to be freshened up with $500K from Ottawa

Five P.E.I. lighthouses will be refurbished with $500,000 in funding, announced the federal government Thursday.

Federal money will also fund coast guard fuel storage tanks at Charlottetown Airport

Five P.E.I. lighthouses will be refurbished with $500,000 in funding, announced the federal government Thursday.

Repairs will be made to the following lighthouses.

  • Seacow Head
  • New London
  • North Cape
  • North Rustico
  • Haszard Point Rear Range

Work will include lead paint removal and interior and exterior repainting. The North Rustico lighthouse will also have doors replaced, a waste disposal system installed and heating system upgrades.

The money will also be used to install new storage fuel tanks at the Charlottetown Airport for the Canadian Coast Guard to service its helicopter.
