21- to 30-year-olds largest group of impaired drivers on P.E.I.
Statistics also show bump in older impaired drivers charged
RCMP on P.E.I. have released the final statistics for impaired driving in 2014, with details on charges laid in Prince County.
The statistics for Prince County, released Monday, show a different pattern from the other two counties in terms of the ages of those charged. Like Queens County the largest group was 21- to 30-year-olds, but the second largest group was those aged 41 to 50, which was a relatively small group in both Queens and Kings County.
Prince County RCMP did not record the number of charges for men versus women. In the other two counties a high proportion were men.
Across the province 21- to 30-year-olds were the highest risk group, with 52 charges laid. The next biggest group was 51- to 60-year-olds, with 31 charges.
RCMP are launching an education program aimed at stopping impaired driving among older people in the spring.
In the past several years impaired driving rates on P.E.I. have dropped significantly.
