Police raid nets record ecstasy seizure

Alberta's new organized crime police unit has seized the largest amount of ecstasy in the province's history

Alberta's new organized crime police unit has seized the largest amount of ecstasy in the province's history -- 213,000 tablets of the drug, with an estimated street value of $4.25 million.

Alberta's Integrated Response to Organized Crime unit, which conducted the raid in June in Calgary, said the tablets contained traces of methamphetamine, making the drug even more addictive.

The probe began eight months ago when officials learned a huge drug shipment was coming to Calgary from Vancouver.

During the June raid, police also seized $25,000 in cash, a semi-automatic rifle, body armour, two stun guns and a high-capacity magazine containing 19 rounds of ammunition.

Hui Xu, 32, of Calgary, who is also known as Phillip Tu, will be back in court Sept. 1 to face eight charges in relation to the raid.
