Two cyclists were hit and seriously injured by vehicles in separate areas of the Ottawa-Gatineau region on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Gatineau, Que., on Wednesday morning, a cyclist was struck by a pickup truck.

Witnesses said the man wasn't wearing a helmet and was sent flying through the air after his bike collided with the truck.

The man was taken to the Hull Hospital, but his condition has not yet been reported.

A road was also closed overnight in Ottawa's east end after a collision between a vehicle and cyclist Tuesday evening.

A 22-year-old cyclist was traveling west on Ogilvie Road, near Blair Road, when he was hit by a vehicle travelling in the same direction at around 11 p.m., according to an Ottawa Police Service media release.

Paramedics found him lying unconscious on Ogilvie Road in front of the Gloucester Centre Mall. The cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Ogilvie Road westbound, between Blair Road and City Park Drive, was closed overnight while police conducted their investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call their collision investigation unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 2481.

Ogilvie Road was reopened Wednesday morning.

The collisions come after a weekend when five cyclists were hit and injured while riding together on March Road in Kanata.

Sommit Luangpakham, 45, has been charged with five counts of failing to stop at the scene of a collision causing bodily harm in connection with that incident. His bail hearing is set for Thursday.
