Transitway near University of Ottawa to close April 24
Campus station to also close as city converts bus-only road to light rail line
The shut-down is part of a series of closures to allow crews to convert the bus-only road to light rail, which is set begin operating in 2018.
A smaller number of buses, including routes 95, 85 and 98, will be detoured along King Edward Avenue.
The final closure on June 19 will see buses diverted off the Transitway onto Scott between Tunney's Pasture and Merton Street.
OC Transpo general manager John Manconi tried to reassure students the transit agency would be there to ease the transition.
"We're out there to take care of our customers. You'll see a lot of OC Transpo staff, with special attention to University of Ottawa students," he said.
Manconi also said the city's recent experiences closing other sections of the Transitway has led to smoother transitions in recent months.
"Look at our track record. There were a lot concerns about Scott Street, I think we did a really good job there. We had a glitch on Hurdman, we fixed it within hours," he said.
Only parts of Nicholas will have bus only lanes. So <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/OCTranspo?src=hash">#OCTranspo</a> buses mix w/ cars. 417 backups could cause delays <a href="https://t.co/m5kekutm0D">pic.twitter.com/m5kekutm0D</a>
