A large tree standing 14 metres tall and nearly eight metres wide was installed by workers using cranes on Monday at the National Gallery of Canada.

The 30-year-old tree, which was cut down in Quebec's Eastern Townships area, arrived frozen.

It's expected to take about a day or so for the tree to thaw out, unfurl and settle in.

About 9,600 LED lights, more than 400 Christmas ornaments and other decorations will be added once the tree thaws, and a lighting ceremony will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
