Standup guy Josh Williams just rolling with new Uber rules
Comedian Josh Williams has 'no problem' with new Uber rules
Josh Williams has been working part time as an Uber driver since last summer to supplement his income as a standup comedian. He is one of about 2,000 drivers working for the ride-hailing company in Ottawa.
The 34-year-old says the job fits perfectly with his lifestyle.
I became an Uber driver for the flexibility.- Josh Williams
"'I became an Uber driver for the flexibility. I can do standup when I need to, and I can work at this whatever hours I decide."
Williams drives about four hours a day for Uber, and typically earns between $80 and $120 daily.
He says even after gas and other expenses, that's well above minimum wage.
No problem with regulations
Williams says he has no problem with the new regulations proposed by the city on Thursday. He says aside from the 10.5-cent per fare fee the city wants to charge, little will change for him.
"Having a clean car less than 10 years old, inspected regularly, these are things we should be doing anyway."
Williams says his customers seem to appreciate both his driving skills and his sense of humour. Right now he has a 4.93-star rating with Uber.
Asked whether that's out of 100, Williams joked, "Yeah, a lot of accidents, if I get into an accident I get out and run. No, it's out of five. So a very, very high score."
