Reduce, reuse, Freecycle

Instead of ridding yourself of old sinks and windows by putting them in the garbage, you can now list them on a website called Ottawa Freecycle.

"If stuff hasn't reached the end of its useful life, why not reuse it?" asked Eric Snyder, who organized the Ottawa Freecycle Network as a way to slow the flow of trash into landfill sites.

"The first thing that was offered was a trash compactor, which is kind of ironic, and that was taken within a day or two," said Snyder.

Ottawa Freecycle joins a worldwide network of 379 cities where residents can both list and look for items. That includes anything from computers and bricks, to dishwashers and guinea pigs.

Freecycle has more than 55,000 members worldwide and is free to join.
