The Red Dot Café has created a classic summertime ice cream treat in pie form.

And to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Osgoode café shared its recipe for banana split pie on D is For Dinner, the weekly food segment on CBC Radio's All in A Day.

Banana split pie

Ingredients

  • 1 baked pie shell, 9-inches.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, (plus more for garnish).
  • 2 - 8 oz packages cream cheese, room temperature.
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla.
  • 1 cup icing sugar.
  • 3 bananas.
  • 1 cup crushed pineapples.
  • Whipped cream.
  • Maraschino cherries.

Instructions

1. Melt chocolate chips, pour into pie shell and spread it around to evenly coat. Set aside.

2. With a hand mixer, blend cream cheese with icing sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Chop up one banana and add to cream cheese mixture.

3. Fold mixture into chocolate covered pie shell, cover with plastic wrap and let set for about an hour.

4. Once the filling is set, slice the remaining two bananas and place on top, then cover with the crushed pineapple.

5. Top with whipped cream and garnish with cherries and chocolate chips. Enjoy!

*Pro tip: toss bananas in a little lemon juice so they do not turn brown.
