Chef Patrick Garland of Absinthe Café won the top prize Monday night at the Gold Metal Plates competition in Ottawa, the annual event that aims to raise funds for future Olympians.

Garland won with a dish of quail with grapes and foie gras served with a 2013 Gerwürztraminer from Tawse winery.

Steve Wall of Supply and Demand and John Morris from Le Café at the National Arts Centre won the silver and bronze in the friendly competition.

As Sandra Abma reports, the event brought out athletes like Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue to help stump for the cause.
