500 Outaouais home daycare workers taking part in rotating provincial strikes
A rotating strike of Quebec home daycare workers is hitting the Outaouais today.
The union representing daycare workers said 500 home-based daycare workers in the Outaouais are on strike, affecting nearly 3,000 children.
Last week, more than 4,000 people walked of the job in Rosemere, Trois-Rivieres and St-Jerome.
Contract negotiations with the provincial government have stalled, the union said. They want a five-per-cent salary increase and the government is offering a 0.5-per-cent increase.
The union said its members work about 50 hours a week on average, but that the government only recognizes 35 hours a week.
The strike mainly involves home-based daycare workers who don't work in daycare centres and aren't nannies.
