May will not start pretty in the capital region.

Floodwaters are expected to peak in western areas of Ottawa-Gatineau today and the weather is also going to be unpleasant.

Expect to start with snow or ice pellets in the morning, which will transition into freezing rain and then just rain.

There's a freezing rain warning for the Barry's Bay area of Renfrew County, where several hours of freezing rain could happen this afternoon in between morning snow and nighttime rain.

In Ottawa-Gatineau and western Quebec, there could be two to five centimetres of snow and ice pellets with a chance of freezing rain as it changes to rain this afternoon, which could stick around all night.

By tomorrow morning we could see as much as 25 millimetres of rain in the capital.

Areas along the St. Lawrence could see up to 35 millimetres.

The high will reach just 4 C, much colder than usual for this time of year.

There are more showers are in Ottawa's forecast later this week, but at least the weekend is set to be warm and dry.
