Flooding on Hunt Club, Trim Roads in Ottawa
Environment Canada warned heavy downpours could lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads
A section of Hunt Club Road has been reduced to one lane and the road to Petrie Island has closed due to flooding as rain continues to fall in the Ottawa region.
One eastbound lane of Hunt Club Road is closed between Conroy and Hawthorne roads due to flooding, as has Trim Road to the Petrie Island, the city says.
Scott Caldwell, the city's manager of transitway and parking, said the Hunt Club flooding is localized to the road and related to a drainage issue that city workers are working to resolve.
Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms in the forecast.
By 9 a.m. Monday, 25 to 35 mm rain had been reported over the area, according to Environment Canada. An additional 20 to 30 mm is possible before it tapers off Monday evening.
Environment Canada said the Ottawa area could see heavy downpours leading to flash floods and water pooling on the roads.
The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority had warned that higher water levels were likely at Petrie Island as well as around Lac Deschene and at Boise Village, east of Cumberland.
The South Nation Conservation authority is cautioning residents in the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet that water levels in the Ottawa River may increase significantly and to stay away from waterways where flows are high and where banks might be unstable.
Ottawa Police are reminding drivers to use caution and slow down because of reduced visibility.
Adjust your driving to road conditions. Ensure your lights are on for full visibility and <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/justslowdown?src=hash">#justslowdown</a>. <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/otttraffic?src=hash">#otttraffic</a> <a href="https://t.co/ep68F4R7iE">pic.twitter.com/ep68F4R7iE</a>
