Ottawa sinkhole inspires torrent of memes on social media
Rideau Street sinkhole spawns a gusher of irreverent commentary
Almost as quickly as news of Ottawa's Rideau Street sinkhole emerged, so too came the deluge of wisecracks, memes and GIFs on social media platforms. Someone even went to the trouble of creating a mock crowd-funding campaign.

A parked van was swallowed by the sinkhole, forcing the evacuation of the Rideau Centre and surrounding businesses, and shutting down roads in a downtown core already clogged by construction.
But apart from the inconvenience to motorists, pedestrians and businesses, no injuries were reported.
