Victoria Day 2016: What's open and closed in Ottawa
It's looking like a beautiful, sunny Victoria Day in Ottawa. If you're heading out, here's a look at what's open, what's closed and what's different on Monday.
Getting around
Parking
All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions apply on Monday.
Transit service
OC Transpo service will operate on a Sunday schedule on Victoria Day.
On Victoria Day, a family or group of up to six people (with a maximum of two people 13 or older) may travel all day with a DayPass, which can be purchased for $8.30 from the bus operator when you board. The Rideau Centre OC Transpo customer service centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. All other OC Transpo customer service centres will be closed.
OC Transpo telephone information centre (613-741-4390) will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday. OC Transpo's customer relations department will be closed.
Para Transpo
Customer service, administration and taxi coupon phone lines are all closed on Monday.
The reservations line (613-244-7272) is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to book a trip. The cancellation/information/general inquiries line (613-244-4636) will be open 6 a.m.to 12:30 a.m.
Shopping and recreation
Shopping
The ByWard Market, the Rideau Centre and surrounding businesses, the Loblaws on Rideau Street and the Sparks Street Mall all have exemptions to remain open on Victoria Day.
Shops in the Glebe, including Lansdowne Park, had also won an exemption to open on statutory holidays, but will remain closed pending the outcome of an appeal to the OMB.
Most other retail malls, including Bayshore Shopping Centre, Place d'Orléans, St. Laurent Centre and the Tanger Outlet in Kanata are also closed.
Museums and galleries
Most national museums and galleries are open Monday, including: the Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum, Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, Canadian Museum of History, Canadian Museum of Nature, Canadian War Museum and the National Gallery of Canada.
The Canadian Science and Technology Museum remains closed due to ongoing repairs.
The Karsh-Masson Gallery, the Barbara Ann Scott Gallery and the OAG Annex at Ottawa City Hall will be open.
City of Ottawa Archives, arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums will be closed. However, clients should check with ottawa.ca or their facility to confirm holiday hours, as some exceptions may apply.
The City of Ottawa Archives Reference Services and Gallery 112 will be open on Saturday, May 21 but will be closed Sunday, May 22 and Monday, May 23 for the Victoria Day weekend.
City recreation services
Right Bike is offering free bike tune-ups at Ottawa City Hall from Sunday, May 1 through Victoria Day, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. They'll take a look at your brakes, gears, wheels and tires to make sure you're ready to ride.
Many pools, fitness centres and some arenas will be open on Victoria Day for public swimming, skating and fitness classes, but with modified schedules. Please check with ottawa.ca or the facility of your choice for details.
Many registered programs at swimming pools, community centres and arenas are cancelled on Victoria Day; however, clients should check with their facility to confirm, as some exceptions will apply.
All branches and services of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed. They will reopen as usual on Tuesday, May 24.
City services
Garbage, green bin and recycling collection
There will be no curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Victoria Day. Victoria Day's pick-up will take place on Tuesday, May 24. Pick-up will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.

Multi-residential garbage container collection is not delayed during the week of May 23.
Other City of Ottawa services
All municipal child-care centres will be closed.
Ottawa City Hall and all seven client service centres, including the government service centre located at 110 Laurier Avenue West, will be closed.
The City's Provincial Offences Court, located at 100 Constellation Crescent, will also be closed. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday, May 24.
The City's 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters requiring the City's immediate attention. Call 3-1-1 or 613-580-2400 to speak to a customer service representative. For persons living with a hearing-related disability, call (TTY: 613-580-2401).
Ottawa Public Health
The Sexual Health Centre and Satellite Clinics will be closed.
The Dental Clinics and Well Baby Drop-in will be closed.
The Site program office at 179 Clarence Street will be closed; however, the program's mobile van will be operating on a regular schedule from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
The Ottawa Public Health Information Line will be closed; however, you can call and leave a message and inquiries will be responded to within one business day.
