OC Transpo fined again for not calling out stops

OC Transpo was fined Tuesday for failing to call out stops on bus routes, the second time the transit service has been penalized for this.

OC Transpo was fined $12,500 Tuesday for failing to call out stops on bus routes, the second time the transit service has been penalized for this.

Three years ago, the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) ordered the transit company's drivers to call out major or requested stops. The CTA said failing to do so would cause an "undue obstacle" for people with visual impairments.

In March 2009, after monitoring the issue, the agency found that OC Transpo drivers still failed to call out the stops and fined the transit company $5,000.

The CTA fined OC Transpo for a second time on this matter Tuesday.

OC Transpo buses will soon be equipped with an automatic stop-call system, but the CTA said it would continue to monitor the service on a periodic basis until compliance is achieved.
