Redblacks, Ti-Cats superfans go helmet-to-helmet on All in a Day

Two of the biggest Ottawa Redblacks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats fans spar ahead of Sunday's eastern final on CBC's All in a Day.

Ottawa takes on Hamilton in CFL east final Sunday afternoon

It's hard to miss Rick Lemay at Ottawa Redblacks games: he's the superfan in the upper south side stands who, at 11 minutes into the third quarter, chugs a beer out of his shoe. (@johnnyjutras on Twitter)

Eleven minutes into the third quarter of every Ottawa Redblacks game, fan Rick Lemay begins his ritual.

He takes his shoe, pours a beer into it, and gives it a good hearty chug.

Lemay — also known as "Mr. Shoebeer" — will be in his usual seat in the upper south side stands of TD Place Sunday afternoon when the Redblacks take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL's eastern final.

"It's not going to be a walk in the park... anything can happen," Lemay told Alan Neal, host of CBC Ottawa's All in a Day.

"But hopefully my tradition of drinking an Alexander Keith's will keep the victory alive here."

Jason Allen, meanwhile, is still trying to get tickets to Sunday's sold-out game.

He's one of the "Box J Boys," a proud group of Ti-Cats supporters who don matching black hard hats and yellow kilts and stake out seats right behind their team's bench.

"We're coming in there as underdogs, and Hamiltonians love to be underdogs," said Allen. "We've been spoilers so many times in past years. We'd be more than happy to come in and do the same in Ottawa."
